West Memphis, Arkansas, held a ribbon-cutting for Walmart and Wing drone delivery on November 2, but the service was not available to local customers at the time, according to DroneXL’s report.
The city described the event as the arrival of the Mid-South’s first drone delivery service. DroneXL reports that WREG checked West Memphis addresses at about 3 p.m. that day and found that drone delivery was not available. The city’s social-media post used future tense, saying Walmart orders would soon be delivered by drone. DroneXL also reports that neither Walmart nor Wing issued a matching launch announcement.
The operating status remained different from the event’s message. DroneXL’s check of Wing’s pages on November 6 found Memphis listed as coming soon, while the Memphis page offered a waitlist. The West Memphis announcement did not identify a store, launch date, delivery radius or aircraft count.
The Memphis-area plan was already framed as prospective. In June, The Daily Memphian reported that Walmart and Wing expected to launch from the Walmart at 8400 U.S. 64 in Bartlett, but that no exact launch date had been set. The report said flights might begin later in the year, without establishing that deliveries had started.
Together, the reports show a planned Walmart-order delivery operation rather than documented live commercial service in West Memphis: the earlier plan named a potential store but lacked a launch date, while the later reporting found no address availability on November 2 and a Memphis waitlist and coming-soon status afterward. For customers, address-level eligibility—not the ribbon-cutting—is the practical test of whether service is operating.
