Wing and Walmart’s Charlotte drone-delivery launch has packaged several earlier store rollouts into a single metro service, according to new reporting from DroneXL. The companies announced the Charlotte-area service on October 21, but some participating stores had already been making deliveries for months.
The current footprint covers seven Walmart Supercenters in Charlotte, Gastonia, Concord, Kannapolis, Lincolnton, Shelby and Kings Mountain. DroneXL reports that Kings Mountain began deliveries in December 2025, Shelby in February and Kannapolis by June. Two more Charlotte-area stores were expected to come online within a week.
The service reaches 10 communities, including Huntersville, Indian Trail and Matthews. Eligible customers can order groceries, household goods and over-the-counter medicine through the Wing app, while the drone option also appears in the Walmart app and on Walmart.com for qualifying addresses. Wing says its catalog includes thousands of eligible Walmart items and that orders can arrive in as little as 30 minutes, according to DroneLife.
The rollout operates within defined limits. DroneXL reports that participating addresses generally must be within about six miles of a store, orders are capped at 2.5 pounds and homes need a clear drop area roughly the size of a picnic blanket. The aircraft hovers above the destination and lowers packages on a tether rather than landing at the customer’s home. The report also says delivery is currently free in the Wing app and for Walmart customers.
Charlotte joins Atlanta, Dallas–Fort Worth, Houston and Orlando as metros offering Wing’s Walmart service. The Charlotte-area stores are part of 60 Walmart locations nationwide, with Wing and Walmart targeting more than 270 stores by the end of 2027, DroneXL reports.
